100+Men Who Care raise money for Grateful Grannies
100+ Men – November 6, 2014 Recipient and Nominees
Started in 2003 by Jeanette Ernest, Grateful Grannies goal is to provide a joyful Christmas to homeless and in-need children and their families. Names are provided by school counselors from Jefferson, Roosevelt, Wilson, Harrison, Truman, and Grant. Last year, Grateful Grannies helped 52 families and 138 children. Each child received a gift they had requested as well as a pillow, and each family received boxes of food. On delivery day, families that are found to have no bed, properly working stove, table, heater, eating utensils, etc. were also provided those items as available.
School counselors know that Grateful Grannies are there to help all-year around if there’s a real need. In February, a school counselor called about a boy who needed glasses and clothing…the Grateful Grannies stepped-up and were able to help the child in need.
